With art as a wide-ranging medium of communication and means of social co-design, the participating artists use the public spaces, numerous galleries, project spaces and cultural institutions during the 8-day festival in order to open up new fields of dialogue, to make diverse perspectives visible and to unfold and make tangible the potential of social cohesion. The aim of the festival is to connect cross-national subcultures and cultural practitioners by providing an institutional framework and to create a cultural, academic and institutional exchange within a sustainable collaborative network.
*CANCELLED (Covid-19 lockdown)* LIVING STUDIO 2020

In the frame of the XX Art Flanerie Festival
Street Art artist Andrea Michaelsson alias BTOY, member of the B-MURALS crew from Barcelona will design the wall of the Schwendergasse Public Gallery in the course of the XX Art Flanerie Festival. Fittingly, the studio of Sebastian Schager / Artis.Love & the newly established Jan Arnold Offspace is lo-cated just a few meters away in the same street. Stencil artist BTOY, Barcelona’s pioneer of the multi-layer stencil technique as Sebastian Schager’s first exhibition guest couldn’t be more appropriate. She is as addicted to stencils as Schager is, and they are both working on the technique, like hardly anyone else in her field, in order to refine it further and further.
The exhibition shows new works by the two stencil masters!

Venue: frei_raum Q21 exhibition space
We proudly announce 17 artists, who will participate at the second edition of 'Living Studios'.
The latest edition of the art project 'Living Studio' transforms frei_raum Q21 exhibition space at MuseumsQuartier Wien into work places for artists, which are open to public.
The projects of the artists can be experienced and give an insight into creative work processes. After two weeks of working and creating at the public space frei_raum Q21 exhibition space, the artworks will be presented in an exhibition.
Ususally at common exhibitions final results are displayed, while the process of creating and making art remains in the dark. In contrast to this the project 'Living Studio' approaches to give a glimpse into the activities of artists, to show the processes of creating art and to strengthen the understanding of art away from museums. This also stimulates the dialogue between artists and art-consuments and offers an easy access to the field of arts in general.
Furthermore the situation of having a lab offers the artists to try out different ways of working, to invite the public to partcipate and to cooperate with other artists. Also strategies of advertising themselves can be experienced by the artists. This helps to figure out potentials on the one hand and to identify difficulties on the other hand. Especially exchange and cooperation finds room at 'Living Studio'.

The group show FULL COURT DESIRE shows eight young artists with provocative, uninhibited but also melancholic and critically discursive works.
Concentrated on the concept of desires, the current works deal with human abysses and their deepest desires. The hidden, the forbidden and the unspoken of our society and time are omnipresent in this pop-up exhibition. Nothing seems impossible.

Artist statement
King or king regnant, rēx, rājan, ríg, reiks – however you call it is the title given to a male monarch in a variety of contexts. The Kingdom is established through power, brute force and all means needed to stay in power. Sebastian Schagers interpretation of the topic is separated into three 1,5x1m (Toal of 1,5x3m) canvases painted in highly detailed stencil technique. Each part of the painting provokes the audience in a different way. The center piece for example depicts a mutilated greek goddess with a sword, kind of meshed up the King Arthur legend. Greek style in art history was often misused, especially in neo classicism to refer to terms justice or fairness in politics. As a female part in a world dominated by men stands as a symbol poking into gender issues. The right side of the right panel depicts the kings armory borrowed from an Italian pilaster in roman style with military trophies from a tomb of a war hero. The huge battle scene from an antique sarcophagus covering almost three-fourths of the Painting shows a battle scene between Romans and Barbarians – Remember, barbarians can be any member of a nation judged by some to be less civilized or orderly ...so all the others! On the left the self-proclamed King himself on his holden throne totally shot up – an elbow strike for all hyper ethic kings out there.
In general the piece including the title “Disco Vitae" what means as much as "I live to learn" might be a psychogram of mankind described through the eyes of an artist including a good amount of question-marks and a few punches to the stomach. The sound and light installation, the Friedrich like arranged "broken ice-sheet" lockers as well as the shards from beer bottles with Damocles Sword fuse to a researching into vertigo.
Info
PARALLEL VIENNA takes place for the seventh time in Vienna from 24th to 29th September 2019 and sticks to its approach of using temporarily vacant buildings as a presentation platform for contemporary art. This year PARALLEL VIENNA takes place in a former office building at LASSALLESTRASSE 5, 1020 Vienna. Instead of the usual booths at art fairs, each exhibitor occupies a separate room of the building in which the exhibition is presented. These site-specific artworks and interventions are the trademark of PARALLEL VIENNA and make the fair a unique and alternative exhibition format outside the “white cube".

"The boutique Hotel Altstadt Vienna is a curated residence, a patron to the arts and a favourite luxury bolthole of the culture scene." - White Line Hotels
The Viennese fine artist Julia Faber comments in her work on the technical evolution of the human body. She describes the vacillation between alleged necessity, perfection and dependence on these technical enhancements. Through their creative negation of the natural real devices and historical and centemporary inventions drift off into a surrealistic image. Julia Faber interprets technology a spacer to the human body.
